How to get a YouTube transcript
- Copy the link of a public YouTube video up to 60 minutes long and paste it above.
- Choose Get transcript. When the video has captions, the text opens in the workspace with timestamps that link back to the video.
- Search, edit and copy the text, export it, or save it to Notion.
Captions or a transcript made on your device
Most videos have captions: subtitles added by the uploader, or YouTube’s automatic captions in the spoken language. Record to Notes uses these original tracks, never machine translations. Getting captions is free and needs no account.
When a video has no captions, sign in to transcribe it on your device instead, up to five videos a day. Our service on Cloudflare fetches the audio once and deletes it after the transfer; speech recognition then runs in your browser with the same Whisper models used for audio files. The first run downloads a speech model, and speed depends on your device.
Export as plain text, Markdown or subtitles
- TXT: plain paragraphs without timestamps, ready to paste. Copy gives you the same text.
- Markdown: the video title as a heading and paragraphs with timestamps, grouped into chapters when the transcript has them. It opens in any Markdown notes app.
- SRT: subtitle cues with start and end times.
- Save to Notion: sign in and connect your workspace to keep transcripts in a Notion database.
Limits
- Public videos up to 60 minutes. Private and members-only videos cannot be retrieved.
- Captions need no account. Transcribing a video without captions needs a free account and is limited to five videos per day.
- Video retrieval handles one request at a time and has a shared daily capacity. If it is busy, try again later or transcribe an audio file on the homepage; local files are not affected.
- Captions carry no speaker labels. Videos transcribed on your device can show who is speaking.
- The transcript lives in this page until you export it or save it to Notion. Refreshing clears it.
What it does not do
Record to Notes does not download videos or audio files, summarize videos or process playlists. It gives you the full text of one video at a time, up to ten in the workspace.
Questions
Is it free?

Yes. Choose Copy or export TXT for plain paragraphs. Markdown and SRT keep the timestamps.
