The service
Record to Notes is a browser-based transcription tool. On the free plan, transcription runs locally on your device: your audio is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to us (see the Privacy Policy). The free plan requires no account and has no per-file length limit for WAV files; MP3/M4A files are currently limited to 1 hour each. Features and limits may evolve — this page and the site describe the current state.
Your content and your responsibility
You keep all rights to your recordings and the transcripts generated from them — we never receive them on the free plan, so we could not claim anything over them anyway. You are responsible for having the right to record and transcribe the audio you process, including any consent required from people in the recording under the laws that apply to you (lecture policies, recording-consent laws, and similar).
Acceptable use
Don't use the service to break the law, infringe others' rights, or probe, overload or disrupt the site and its APIs. That's the whole list.
Pro and the waitlist
The paid Pro tier ($9/month or $79/year) is not yet available. Joining the waitlist stores your email solely to notify you about Pro, including any early-access discount offered at signup; it creates no payment obligation. When Pro launches: subscriptions will be cancellable at any time, taking effect at the end of the paid period, and these terms will be updated with the full subscription, billing and refund details before anyone is charged.
No warranty, honest edition
The free service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. Automatic transcription makes mistakes — accuracy varies with audio quality, accents and vocabulary. Don't rely on an unreviewed transcript where accuracy is critical (legal, medical, safety or similar contexts); review the output against the recording.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from use of the service. For the free plan, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for it: zero. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Changes
We may update these terms; the effective date above changes when we do, and material changes will be noted on this page. Continued use after a change means acceptance of the updated terms.
