Why this exists

Long recordings are the worst-served case in transcription. A 2-hour lecture or a full podcast episode blows through every free tier on the market — most tools cap free use at around 30 minutes per file or a few files a day, because they run your audio on their servers and pay for every minute of it.

Record to Notes takes a different route: the speech model (OpenAI's Whisper) runs inside your browser, on your own hardware. That one architectural choice produces everything this product promises — there's no per-minute cost to recover, so the free plan has no length cap and no daily cap; and your audio physically never leaves your device, so privacy is a property of the design rather than a policy promise.

Who makes it

Record to Notes is built and run by an independent developer — no VC funding, no growth team, no data-monetization model waiting in the wings. Questions, bug reports and blunt feedback all reach a human at [email protected].

How it sustains itself

The free plan is the product, not the trial — local transcription costs us nothing to give away, so it stays unlimited. The business model is the upcoming Pro tier ($9/mo or $79/yr) for the recordings that really matter: cloud-grade accuracy in 90+ languages, a 2-hour file done in about a minute, batch processing, and Study Packs. The state of things

Shipped and free today: unlimited local transcription (WAV any length; MP3/M4A up to 1 hour per file for now), auto-detected chapters with summaries, timestamps, and TXT/SRT/Markdown export. In progress: longer compressed-file support, speaker labels, and the Pro tier. If something's broken or missing for your use case, say so — small products get better through exactly that.
